How to choose: Best AI for Research
Hyperresearch is our editorial choice for AI research: deep, sourced reports with every cited figure checked against its source.
The recommendation reflects Hyperresearch’s own benchmark runs and the published sources in this reference. Hyperresearch is our product. This is not a hands-on test of every tool.

Five steps to choose a tool
- Write the question in one sentence and name the output you need: a table, a cited report, or a short answer with quotes.
- Pick the job: papers, business and market data, or your own files. Shortlist two tools for that job.
- Read how the tool handles sources. Confirm that each claim links to a page and that the quoted text appears there.
- Check the free tier and the paid plan on the vendor page. Note the limits, not only the price.
- If a benchmark score is cited, read its method first, including the judge and task count, before you give the score weight.
Test it yourself with a pilot
Pick two questions. One should have a known answer from a trusted source. The other should be a question you need answered this month. Run both through your two shortlisted tools on the same day.
Score each answer on three points: whether the figures match the source, whether every citation opens to the right page, and how long you spent checking. Keep a short written log so the comparison is fair. Write down the date and the exact question for each run, because tools change over time and a result from last month may not repeat.
Decide in advance what would make you reject a tool, such as one wrong figure in a key claim or a citation that cannot be found. A clear rule keeps the choice from drifting toward the most polished answer.
A fast tool that needs heavy checking is slower in the end. Repeat the pilot with a question from a second field before you decide, because a tool that excels with papers may struggle with company data, and the reverse is also true.
