Consensus in Best AI for Research

Answer in brief

AI search engine for peer-reviewed papers that answers research questions with synthesized, cited responses.

Best for

Quick, cited answers to research questions from peer-reviewed papers

Pricing

The Free plan includes unlimited paper searches, 10 Pro messages and 3 Deep reviews a month. Pro is $20 a month or $144 a year (about $12 a month billed annually) and includes 15 Deep reviews a month. Deep is $65 a month or $540 a year with 200 Deep reviews a month, and Teams and Enterprise are quoted.

What it covers

The homepage says Consensus searches 400M+ scientific papers. Official pages I could read do not name the underlying index; third-party sites say Semantic Scholar, which is unconfirmed.

Citations and verification

Answers cite the papers they draw on. Consensus's September 2026 blog posts describe showing exact quotes from cited papers and pulling charts and tables from them.

API

I found no public developer API documentation. The help center lists API and MCP call allowances per plan: 30 a month on Free, 500 on Pro and 2,000 on Deep.
