Deep research
An AI workflow that plans a question, runs many searches, reads the sources it finds and writes a long, cited report.
What it means
Deep research goes beyond a single chat answer. The tool breaks a question into sub-questions, searches the web and sometimes structured databases, reads the pages it finds, and then writes a report. Most products show the sources they used, so a reader can check them.
The quality of a deep research report depends on how well the tool plans, how many sources it reads and whether it checks its own claims. A long report is not a better report by default. Ask for the source behind each important figure, and check two or three of them before you rely on the whole document. Benchmarks such as DRACO test this kind of work directly, by scoring full reports against a fixed set of tasks. A report that scores well on a benchmark still needs your own check on the questions you care about.
